Karlsson's - Vodka With Character

Although vodka is one of the best selling spirits in the world, it's has a pretty bad reputation among bar owners and cocktail enthusiasts. Even though, by definition, vodka is supposed to be a neutral spirit, it's been heavily criticized for its lack of aroma and flavor.

Then along comes Karlsson's - a handcrafted small-batch vodka boasting outstanding character and exceptional smoothness. While some may have berated the release of YET ANOTHER vodka, just one sip of Karlsson's put them all to shame.

Developed by Börje Karlsson, the man behind mega brand Absolut Vodka, Karlsson's Gold is meticulously handcrafted from virgin new potatoes from Cape Bjäre of Southern Sweden. After three years of experimenting with different potato strains, the final recipe was decided upon - Karlsson's Gold would be distilled from seven different varieties of new-potatoes: Solist, Pricess, Gammel Svensk Röd, Hamlet, St. Thora, Marine and Celine. By distilling each strain only once, then expertly blending them together, Karlsson was able to preserve the natural characteristics of the ingredients.


Karlsson took this concept even further with the release of his vintage vodka. He believes that potatoes for vodka should be treated like grapes for wine, carefully selected to form a unique flavor base that varies from harvest to harvest, year to year. Karlsson's has been creating vintage vodka in very limited quantities for years and has recently launched Karlsson's Batch 2008 Vintage Vodka - a single-varietal, single-batch vodka crafted from the 2008 harvest of the Gammel Svensk Röd potato. Warmer temperatures in 2008 resulted in a more flavorful new potato harvest, yielding a bold, peppery vodka with distinctive notes of earth, mineral and potato on the nose and palate. Only 1,980 individually numbered bottles were produced.

Novo Fogo Organic Cachaça

Novo Fogo Organic Cachaça has captured the hearts (and palates) of American consumers with their dedication to the environment and their passion for sustainable cachaça. Novo Fogo, or "new fire" in Portuguese, is produced in the little town of Morretes, tucked away in the coastal mountains of Southern Brazil, bordering the protected Atlantic Rainforest.

Novo Fogo goes to great lengths to ensure the quality of their product, while still preserving and protecting the natural resources of the region. The sugarcane is grown without the use of chemicals or preservatives and harvested by hand. After the sugarcane is pressed to extract the juice, the bagasse waste (the dry, fibrous residue remaining after the stalks are crushed) is reused as fuel for the distillation process. The juice is fermented with organic corn and rice, then distilled in small copper pot stills heated by the bagasse fuel. Like most craft distillers, Novo Fogo only keeps the heart of the distillate and separates the inferior heads and tails. However, instead of discarding them, the team at Novo Fogo uses them as fuel for their cars. Even the bottles are handcrafted from glass which has been collected and recycled from the streets of the neighboring city of Curitiba. The distillery reuses every byproduct they create, resulting in zero waste. This strict production method has allowed Novo Fogo Cachaça to be certified organic by the USDA.

Novo Fogo Organic Silver Cachaça is a smooth, sippable spirit with fresh aromas of banana, lime blossom and tropical fruit. Flavors of citrus fruit, sweet red pepper and sea salt emerge on the palate and merge with a distinctive note of fresh cane on the finish.

Matured in ex-bourbon casks for over two years, Novo Fogo Organic Gold Cachaça offers an enticing nose of toffee and vanilla, which leads to flavors of brioche, honeycomb, apple pie and banana bread on the palate. Notes of fresh cane, light oak and subtle spice linger through the finish.
